About Greenboro

The first automobiles arrived in Greensboro in 1898. Just two years later, Gilbert Waters saw automobiles on a trip to Baltimore and tried to interest his father and other investors in setting up an automobile manufacturing business in Greensboro. Unfortunately, his initiative was unsuccessful and car manufacturing never materialized on a grand scale in North Carolina’s third-largest city.
