Did You know

Did you know that?..

There is no airport on Airport Road in Huntsville!

Huntsville’s airport is located on Glenn Hearn Blvd. The Airport Road leads to the location of the former airport which has been turned into John Hunt Park — a beautiful recreational area of 428 acres, with soccer, baseball, softball, lighted, multipurpose fields, playgrounds, and a community building. Keep in mind that dogs were recently banned from John Hunt Park.

A bit of history

Huntsville AL was initially called Twickenham, but on November 25, 1811, was renamed after the first settler. Its growth was determined by the development of the cotton and railroad industries, and later — the military factories. Electric street cars appeared in Huntsville as early as 1901, replacing horses and wagons.
But in the 20th-century rocket science “came to town” and changed its status forever. Today the Rocket City is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the United States Army Aviation, the Missile Command at the Redstone Arsenal, as well as Cummings Research Park. Why are we talking about space in the auto industry section? Because these developments have shaped (and still do) the infrastructure of the city. The major roadways in Huntsville AL are great, but the commuting and traffic can be a pain.

Roads of Huntsville AL

The major thoroughfare in Huntsville AL is Memorial Parkway, aka Parkway, a part of the U.S. Route 231. It hosts over 100,000 vehicles on an average day! Route 431, Route 72, and State Route 53 pass through the city of Huntsville, connecting it with the other parts of the country.

Huntsville: home of Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA

One of the most important car manufacturers chose Huntsville AL as a home base for its American headquarters. Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, U.S.A. is located in Greenbrier — a part of the Huntsville Metropolitan Area. It is a joint venture, owned by Mazda & Toyota. Having started operations on September 30, 2021, it produces the Corolla Cross compact crossover SUV on its "Apollo" assembly line. Mazda CX-50 compact crossover SUV production began on January 26, 2022, on the "Discovery" assembly line. Cruise through our catalog and “Shop tires by car” to find the best new or used tires for your Toyota and Mazda.

Huntsville loves its race!

The city hosts three popular race tracks: Huntsville Speedway, Huntsville Dragway, and RC3 Rocket City Racing. Huntsville Speedway is a legendary quarter-mile oval race track that opened in 1959 as a dirt track and was paved in 1962. It hosted one of the NASCAR Grand National Series events in 1962, and today hosts weekly racing events.
Huntsville Dragway Community car raceway is designated for kids and adults alike and gives them a great opportunity to compete! But also regularly hosts competitions that are definitely worth a visit!
Rocket City Radio Controlled Race Club (RC3) is an incredible race track that allows its visitors to enjoy… racing radio control vehicles! Special ovals with paved asphalt, dirt oval, and off-road races have been available to Huntsvillians since 2001. R3C is an all-volunteer-run organization, feel free to support it!

What tires do you need for Huntsville weather?

What tires do you need for Huntsville weather?
What tires do you need for Huntsville weather?
The climate in Huntsville is temperate. The weather is often humid, and rainfalls are common throughout the year. The annual precipitation is higher than the country’s average: 55 inches against 36. “Partly cloudy” is a very common phrase that Huntsvilians hear in the weather reports. The late spring, summer, and early fall are characterized by high temperatures. In general, the city’s winters are short, mostly mild, and wet. Average annual temperatures vary between 33 °F and 89 °F and rarely fall below 19 °F, or rise above 96 °F.
A good set of all-season tires would be perfect for local road conditions, and it can serve the drivers well all year round. Everyone looking for enhanced summer performance, better grip with the wet road surface, and aquaplaning prevention, can go for summer, performance, or high-performance tires. But in the case of this smart choice, it would be also smart to perform a changeover when the winter temperatures drop below 45 °F.
