Did You know

Did you know that?..

Essex was home to one of the former Boston and Maine Railroad stations

Essex Depot was built in 1870. The train transported passengers, timber for shipbuilding, and ice harvested from Chebacco Lake to Hamilton, where it connected with the main rail line to Boston. Unfortunately, train service was discontinued in 1942.

Essex commemorates its automotive history through antique shops, museums, and picturesque places like Gaybrook Garage, an old-fashioned auto repair shop that has been in operation since 1929. Furthermore, the town's historic railroad has become a must-see for visitors.

Historic railroad

The Essex Railroad ran 19.6 miles from Salem to North Andover. It was first opened in 1847, but its operations were suspended three times. The line was shuttered for the first time in April 1849, and it remained closed for a year. Then, it was reopened in the spring of 1850, but financial difficulties forced it to close again by the fall. In October 1851, the line was reopened as the Eastern Lawrence Branch.
By 1884, Essex had become a sparsely populated area, making the branch line less important. In 1925, the only remaining services on the line were the passenger service for Lawrence factory workers commuting to North Andover and the freight service between Salem and Danvers Junction. In 1981, the line was officially removed from service.
Given that trains are no longer used to transport goods and passengers, driving in this town is your best option. Buy passenger and touring tires in Essex, MA at our online store and save up to 50%. Free FedEx shipping!

Gaybrook Garage

Gaybrook Garage is more than just an auto repair shop; it is a historic landmark in Essex, MA. This old-fashioned establishment, surrounded by old trolley tracks and a bubbling gay brook, first opened its doors in 1929. Since then, the place has kept popular antiques, such as a 1907 cash register that is still in use.
Gaybrook represents the beginning of automotive repair in town, as it began operations when only one or two types of cars needed to be serviced, primarily the Ford Model A, which was introduced in 1927. As a result, its employees learned how to repair any type of car, which included tractors.
Nowadays, Ford vehicles are so common. Do you own one? Save up to 50% on new and used Ford tires in Essex! Do you own a tractor instead? Buy tractor tires and take advantage of our one-year no-hassle return policy, which ensures your purchase if you change your mind.

Tires for summer

Essex has 201 sunny days per year on average. This is more than the US average of 205 sunny days. July is the hottest month, with temperatures reaching 80 °F, followed by August and June. Tires for spring and fall

All-season tires are recommended for safe driving along Essex in the spring and fall. They combine specific features of summer and winter tires to create a product designed to last all year. These hybrid tires are intended to provide better traction in the winter while maintaining superior handling and stability in the summer.

Tires for winter
