USED TIRE REPAIR - CHICAGO, IL

”Do you have used tires on your car?”

D   o you worry about having to replace them if you experience a puncture?

Worry no more. Having a used tire doesn’t mean that you can’t get it repaired when something goes wrong. As long as the tire is in good overall condition, you can get a used tire repair service that will have you back on the road without burning a hole in your wallet.
We offer exactly that. Our technicians can carry out repairs on used tires that will save you money.

Why Do People Buy Used Tires?

There are many reasons why somebody may choose to buy used tires. Cost is the main one. Used tires cost less than brand new ones. They also work in the same way, as long as the tires are in good condition.

On top of that, it’s not always easy to find brand new tires. Many shops put used tires back up on the market rather than scrap them.

This isn’t a bad practice. However, it does mean that you need to be vigilant when buying used tires. It’s not the mileage that counts with a tire. It’s the condition that it’s in before it’s fitted to your vehicle that matters most.

Things to Consider When Buying Used Tires

If you know what to look for, you can avoid having to go in for a used tire repair service for longer. Check the following when buying used tires:

    • Check the tire identification number (TIN). You’re looking for the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth digits. These tell you the month and year that the tire was made. For example, a TIN of 0511 tells you that the tire was made in May 2011. Don’t buy used tires that are over six years old.
    • Check the tread depth to ensure it’s not running so thin that that tire presents a danger to your car. Inserting a penny is a useful quick check. If the tread covers Abraham Lincoln’s head, it should be deep enough.
    • Check the sidewalls for any bumps or strange shapes. Damage to a tire’s sidewall can’t be repaired.

Our Used Tire Repair Service

Even with all of these checks, you can’t guarantee that you won’t get a puncture. Even the smallest piece of debris can cause a slow puncture that forces you off the road.

That’s where the United Tires team comes in. We provide a used tire repair service that will get you driving again as soon as possible.
When you visit us, we take detailed look at your tire. We want to ensure that it will be structurally sound once we’ve made the repair. If it won’t be, we’ll tell you.
Your technician will then discuss your options with you. You may want to plug the tire as a temporary solution before getting a more permanent fix. However, we usually recommend a combined tire patch and plug solution. This can last for another 10 years, assuming you treat your tires well.
Having used tires doesn’t mean that you can’t repair them when something goes wrong. Contact United Tires to find out if we can make your used tires as good as new again.
