REAR AND FRONT TIRES - CHICAGO, IL

I   t is a common belief amongst motorists and vehicle enthusiasts that better tires should be placed on the front. Likewise, tire installers would normally put the better tires on the front, regardless whether you buy two tires or have the tires rotated. In other words, front tires are given more importance than rear tires.

However, most tire manufacturers would now suggest giving priority on rear tires. The reason for this is because rear tires should be better placed at the back for safety purposes. Aside from that, front tires usually wear faster than rear tires.

A Study About the Importance of Rear Tires

A test conducted by Michelin involved the use of a front-wheel car, a rear-wheel drive car, and a four-wheel drive car. Basically, the result of the said study revealed that it is unnecessary to always place new tires on the front, which depends on the type of car.

Another experiment involved the participants to drive around a circle at 50 miles per hour. Both persons drove the same cars, but one had tread on the front tires while the other had tread on the rear tires.

The car with the tread on the front tires lost grip and skidded straight. On the other hand, the other car with the tread on the rear tires initially lost grip, but eventually stayed on track and spun.

This experiment only showed that car manufacturers mostly placed their safety gears intended for front impacts, with a little focus on protection against side or rear impacts. Thus, car experts suggest placing the better tires at the back. In addition, it is also a better solution especially if safety of the car and the passengers are involved.

On Giving Equal Importance to Both Front and Rear Tires

On the other hand, putting the better wheels on the front can help stabilize a car, as the loss of control on the rear part of the vehicle can lead to vehicular problems, or even fatal accidents.

Regardless of where you prefer to put your new and better tires, the quality of your tires is of utmost importance. Moreover, the performance of a good tire – whether placed on the back or front of the vehicle – would depend on the driver’s personal driving style.

Get Top-Quality Front and Rear Tires at United Tires!

Nevertheless, placing tires on either side has its own pros and cons. However, tire maintenance should never be ignored, and that it should be done on a regular basis. While most tires can last around 50,000 miles before wearing out, several environmental and man-made factors can hasten tire wearing, such as heat and uneven road surfaces.

For better-performing vehicles, a high-quality tire should be considered as an investment for your car. Whether brand-new or used, vehicle drivers should be wary of choosing quality tires, because it can create an impact on the vehicle’s performance and road worthiness.

We at United Tires will gladly assist you with the right tires that suit your car’s needs, as well as your driving style and location.
